The Future is Equal.
Why support the Womens Legal Centre
At the Women’s Legal Centre (WLC), we are committed to advancing women’s rights and achieving gender equality.
As an African feminist legal non-profit organisation, we provide free legal representation, advice and support to womxn across South Africa, ensuring their voices are heard and their rights are upheld. Your donation today can help us ensure that women have access to justice and that the lives of marginalised womxn in society are uplifted. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to justice and equality for all women.
At WLC, we ensure every donation is used ethically and effectively. Your support directly funds legal representation, advice and support for woman in need.
How You Can Empower Women
Legal
Advice
Every day, around six women reach out to our organisation for free legal advice through office visits, phone calls, emails, WhatsApp messages, and social media referrals. Our two dedicated paralegals in our Legal Advice Unit are highly skilled and provide essential support across all five of our focus areas. For only R100, you can fund a legal advice consultation, giving one woman the access to justice she deserves.
Educational
Workshops
By funding a workshop, you help us to:
- Enhance the capacity of community activists, women’s rights defenders, and first responders by educating them on legal advancements, including those driven by our organisation, so they can effectively inform women about their rights.
- Creating a direct link between our organisation and women in communities, ensuring that the support we provide reaches those who need it most.
Women’s rights to live free from violence.
In South Africa, women face grave violations of their rights to safety and dignity, which impacts negatively on women and society at large. We attend to cases that combat the infringement of these rights and improves the access of women and (girl) children to state protection from violence, particularly sexual and domestic violence.
Youth Programmes
The Centre addresses the lack of feminist education in legal studies, which leads to gender bias in our courts. Our Youth Programmes bridge this gap by creating a cohort of African feminist legal practitioners in South Africa. Our programmes include the Feminist Clinic, Candidate Attorney Programme, and an Internship Programme.
Access to Courts
- Women’s rights to live free from violence
- Women’s rights to just and favorable working conditions
- Sexual and reproductive health rights
- Equality in relationships
- Women’s rights to land, housing, and property
