The WLC seeks to advance the struggle for equality for women, particularly black women, who suffer socio-economic disadvantage, through the promotion and development of human rights for women.

The WLC has a vision of women in South Africa living free from violence in safe housing, free to own their own share of property, empowered to ensure their own reproductive health rights and able to work in a safe and equal environment.

The Women's Legal Centre Trust is registered as a Non-Profit Trust under the Trust Property Control Act (IT 3486/98) and as a Non Profit Organisation (032-685-NPO) with tax exempt status. The Centre is registered as a law centre with the Law Society of South Africa. The patrons and trustees are as follows:
